We were shocked and saddened to learn of Gabriele Conn-Lewis’ recent passing. Gabriele served as a VBCF volunteer extraordinaire, beginning as a member of VBCF’s Peninsula Chapter in 2009. She was an engaging personality – thoughtful, passionate, and practical about the work she did.
At the local level, she was a do-er, taking on increased activities and leadership responsibilities as the years went on, serving as the Chapter Vice President and then President beginning in 2015. In 2016, she was nominated to represent the Chapter as a statewide Board Member.
Throughout her VBCF volunteer work, Gabriele was passionately engaged at the local, state, and national levels in working to empower Virginians affected by breast cancer. She offered strong and consistent organizational leadership to VBCF and was an active and committed advocacy and education volunteer. She was always willing to help table eastern Virginia breast health educational events and participated in many years of state advocacy days, meeting with members of the Virginia General Assembly and in national advocacy days, visiting Virginia’s Congressional elected officials.
Gabriele’s interest in making a difference was balanced by her calm and insightful demeanor. She was a joy to stand beside, and her contributions will be greatly missed. We offer our sincere condolences to her loved ones, her family, and her many friends.
