In Memory of Don Geisler

We are deeply saddened to share that Don Geisler, a cherished member of our VBCF family, has passed away.

Don’s journey with VBCF began through his wife, Barbara, who was active with our local chapters and state office. In 1996, when Barbara was diagnosed with breast cancer, Don stood by her side as they navigated treatment and recovery together. Their experience gave Don firsthand insight into the impact of breast cancer on families and inspired his commitment to supporting others.

Don came to VBCF not only as a supportive spouse but also as a son and brother-in-law of breast cancer survivors. His dedication to our mission grew as he became deeply involved in our Central Virginia chapter, where he earned the Chapter’s Volunteer of the Year award for his outstanding service. Whether helping with local events or attending State and National Lobby Days, Don was a steady and familiar presence.

Always ready to help, he and Barbara played a vital role when we moved offices. Together, they handled everything—from inventorying, packing, and moving boxes to hanging artwork, photos, and our commemorative quilts, each placed with Don’s trademark engineer’s precision. Their teamwork, marked by warm smiles and a bit of good-natured bantering, reflected the strength of their bond and the joy they brought to those around them.

In 2009, Don deepened his commitment to VBCF by joining our Board of Directors, where he served until 2014, bringing his financial and advocacy experience to the organization. He once shared what inspired him to serve on the board:

“I have seen the effect breast cancer has on the family and community. I joined the VBCF Board to be the voice of the spouse and family members when one goes through breast cancer.” – Don Geisler

Barbara and Don were true partners in every sense—always together, always supporting one another. Their dedication to VBCF touched countless lives, and we are forever grateful for their service to our community.

Our hearts go out to Barbara and their family during this difficult time. We invite you to read Don’s obituary and join us in celebrating his life and legacy: Read Don’s Obituary
