Highlights from the Power of Pink Luncheon in Richmond

VBCF’s inaugural 2024 Richmond Power of Pink Luncheon took place at The Jefferson Hotel on October 10, 2024, and was a day filled with energy, community, and enthusiasm in support of our mission. The event opened with a lively reception in the Rotunda, where attendees enjoyed seasonal pink mocktails. The luncheon followed in the Grand Ballroom, which was illuminated in pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.

Reba Hollingsworth, WTVR CBS 6 anchor, brought her passion for breast cancer awareness to her role as emcee, sparking excitement in the room. Reba recognized our sponsors including Presenting Sponsor, Virginia Women’s Center (VWC), for their ongoing support. Wesley Ralston, VWC’s Director of Health Informatics, welcomed attendees and spoke briefly about the work VWC does to promote health and wellness in our community.

Next, Reba introduced Dr. Priti Shah, VBCF Board Member and Director of Breast Imaging with VCU Health, as our local speaker. Dr. Shah shared moving insights from her patient care experience and her advocacy work with VBCF. She also highlighted our exciting new partnership with VCU Health to provide essential diagnostic testing for central Virginians in need.

The keynote speaker, Elizabeth Heiskell, a renowned cookbook author and food contributor on The Today Show, entertained and inspired the crowd with her breast cancer journey, weaving humor and personal strength into her story. Her message resonated deeply with attendees. Following Elizabeth’s speech, Tara Daudani, VBCF’s Board President, shared her own breast cancer journey and how VBCF has made an impact on her life.

Tara led a touching moment in which survivors and thrivers in the room raised pink flowers in solidarity. She also shared the latest breast cancer statistics and encouraged everyone to get involved with VBCF’s advocacy and support initiatives. We were especially honored to have two of VBCF’s founders, Patti Goodall and Mary Jo Kahn, in attendance.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, and especially to our Power of Pink sponsors, whose generous support made this event possible. Thank you for standing with us in our mission to empower Virginians impacted by breast cancer.
